Apex aligns with Grubb & Ellis - Deal gives real estate brokerage broader reach

A Brookfield commercial real estate brokerage firm announced Wednesday that it has affiliated with a national network of real estate brokerages.

Apex Commercial Inc. has affiliated with Grubb & Ellis Co., Apex principal Dan Jessup said.

Apex, which has nine brokers, can now gain referrals through Grubb & Ellis when large, out-of-state corporations need commercial real estate services in southeastern Wisconsin.

"It literally takes us from a local company to a local company with a global presence," said Jessup, who started Apex in 2002. "It's a big step for us."

Grubb & Ellis previously had a Milwaukee-area affiliation with Boerke Co. That ended in June, when Boerke dropped the Grubb & Ellis relationship and affiliated with Cushman & Wakefield Inc.'s commercial real estate services network.

Boerke switched networks because Cushman & Wakefield's affiliation covers the entire state, not just southeastern Wisconsin.

"The addition of Apex to our national affiliates program reinforces our commitment to Milwaukee and its surrounding areas, a market Grubb & Ellis has had a presence in for nine years," Pat Hurley, president of Grubb & Ellis Affiliates Inc., said in a statement.

Other local commercial real estate brokers allied with national networks include Colliers Barry, the former James T. Barry Co. that's affiliated with Colliers International; Siegel-Gallagher Inc., with Oncor International; and NAI MLG Commercial, an affiliation of MLG Commercial Inc. and NAI.

All those firms remain locally owned.

In July, Polacheck Co., the Milwaukee area's largest commercial real estate brokerage, was sold to global real estate services provider CB Richard Ellis Group Inc. for $20 million. The acquisition came 10 years after Polacheck formed an affiliation with CB Commercial Partners Inc., the predecessor to CB Richard Ellis.
